Expedition to the Stars
- The Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence
Is there life beyond Earth? The Milky way is vast disk-shaped system containing
between 200 and 400 billion stars. Many undoubtedly have planets and chances are
that there are numerous civilizations spread across the universe. Therefore, on
October 12, 1992, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration embarked on a
ten year survey to detect radio messages from alien worlds. This kit reflects that
effort. It contains everything you need to construct a 13 1/3" x 10 3/4" x
9 1/2" stellar model. You assemble the components, then mount 37 silver
"stars" on this plastic threads according to their actual astronomical position
in space, thus creating a representational model of a sector of the Milky Way. A
38th "star" is provided to indicate the first alien civilization when it is
found. Comes with 32 educational booklet about the search for extraterrestrial life.
An intriguing model in that it is the first to explore a fascinating subject.
Ages 10 and up.
