NASA has sent numerous probes into space to discover its secrets.  Some were given the job of exploring our neighboring planets.  The Mariner and Viking Missions provided extensive information abut Mars, our nearest neighbor.  We now know that the Martian "canals" are a vast system of canyons that stretch over 2,400 miles with widths up to 435 miles and depths of over 4 miles.  It is the enormous Valles Marineris, the most prominent feature of the planet.  On Earth, it would convert he entire North American continent from New York to Los Angeles.   This kit utilizes the data collected by NASA to let you create a scale model of this incredible feature.  It consists of eight contour maps of Valles Marineris. You cut them out, then assemble them into a three dimensional model, then mount your model in the attractive full color frame that provides close-up photos of Mars. Final size a whooping 20 1/4" x 13 1/2".  A great kit.  The first to take actual NASA data and use it as the basis for a science project.  Comes with extensive 32 page educational booklet about the mysteries of Mars.  Ages 10 and up..
